In celebration of Gucci’s 90th anniversary, The Museo Gucci has opened in the Piazza della Signoria which is located right in the heart of Florence. Encased behind the walls of a 14th Century building, the museum pays homage to the icons of the past and the strong relationship that Gucci has forged with almost a century of glamazons.

Items include Gucci’s famed “bamboo” handbags owned by fashion idols Jackie Onassis and Sofia Loren which are on permanent display; and are juxtaposed by feathery ostrich number which was worn at this year’s Academy Awards by Hilary Swank reinforcing Gucci’s influence on the past and present.

Not only is there a café serving luxe coffees but there is also a gift shop where you can pick up anything from a tourist tee to iconic leather goods. Apparently the biggest issue when creating the museum was not curating through 90 years of fashion but  whether an image of Gucci should cover up the Da Vinci fresco. I guess we’ll have to visit to find out.
