ATHLETES NAIL IT AT LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS
August 7th, 2012Back in London after a stint in Sydney, I have been glued to the Olympics and feeling super patriotic. While not much of a sports follower usually, the Olympics have me gripped and it’s not just team GB’s gold medals I have been tracking – it’s the amazing nail art of the female athletes!
This year eyes have been trained on the fabulous flag designs of some of the world’s leading sportswomen. From swimmer Rebecca Adlington’s union jack nails, Venus Williams’ stars and stripes design, and German track cyclist Kristina Vogel’s metallic look, the international stars of the Olympics have been wearing their country’s flag with pride and giving us a flash of their nails as they hold their medals aloft.
The woman behind many of the most impressive Olympic manicures is London nail artist Sophy Robson, who joined forces with Procter & Gamble (P&G) to provide nail services to athletes and guests at the Olympic Village in Stratford.
Sophy told MTV Style: “For Max Factor, I created 207 country flag designs, which are being hand painted on athletes and their families at the P&G salons across London. Each design is based on the flags colors; however people can come in and choose whatever they want or a variation of different flags,”
Stella McCartney designing GB’s kit, Sportscraft blazers for Australia, a fashion show at the closing ceremony featuring some of the UK’s most iconic models, and amazing nail art on the biggest female athletes in the world – London 2012 has to be the most stylish Olympics on record!
