VITTORIA SPONSORS CAMBODIAN COFFE HOUSE
July 17th, 2012Vittoria Coffee has three very special visitors this week; a group of Cambodians who are learning the art of coffee-making in preparation for the launch of a café and barista training facility in their home country!
The project has been pioneered by the Cambodian Children’s Trust. CCT was created in 2007 when Sydney resident Tara Winkler, aged 21, teamed up with Cambodian locals and rescued 14 children from a corrupt orphanage in Battambang.
Vittoria Coffee has teamed up with Tara and CCT to set up a Café and Barista Training School in Battambang, Cambodia. The project will provide jobs and skills for the local youths and give CCT a source of sustainable income. The first step in this project is to provide barista and business skills to a team from CCT. On Saturday 7th of July, three CCT staff, Jedtha, Buffalo and Lavy, were flown to Sydney by Vittoria to spend 10 days of intensive training with Vittoria’s in-house team.
The three CCT members have been taught the art of coffee-making with Vittoria machines. At the completion of their first week of training, they hit the road to practice their new skills in Sydney’s most popular cafes. At the end of next week, the Cambodian team will return home to launch the project. The Café and Barista School, which is being funded by Vittoria, is expected to be in business by the end of the year.
Such a fantastic initiative – Cambodian’s will soon be enjoying the best of Australian coffee too!
