Stephanie Gilmore wins 5th ASP world title…July 16th, 2012
Quiksilver’s Stephanie Gilmore today took home her 5th ASP World Title on the shores of Biarritz. Amid sunny skires a 4-5 foot waves, Stephanie was all smiled when she beat out Tyler Wright and staked her claim as the 2012 Surfing World Champion. The quest for the world title was no easy feat this year, as competition was fierce and the battle for the crown was a result of pure determination and passion for the sport that Stephanie loves.
“It was such a challenge to come back. It’s really rewarding! All the girls are surfing so well I really had to give 100% in every heat that I went out to. I’m really proud of this title. There were so many people on the beach. It was the most incredible feeling in the world.”
“Wow! People seemed to have forgotten all about Steph Gilmore with the rise of Carissa Moore last year. I think that was just what she needed. The pressure has been off and she’s on fire. What a great and complete season and High Five! Love.”
The Betties are SO proud of you Steph!!
