GORDON RICHARDS
December 6th, 2011
Gordon Richards, chef turned artist, has entranced us with his vibrant and visually pleasing works of art, proving why he is considered to be one of Australia’s most successful artists.
Simple recurring themes of his work include half empty bottles of wine, sumptuous fruits, decadent desserts, fauna and flora, gorgeous Australian wildlife and of course that beautiful blonde! These motifs effortlessly capture Australian seasons and nature and bring sheer delight to the viewer.
Before painting his first canvas in the early 90’s, Gordon was a highly acclaimed chef and innovative restaurant owner in Bendigo, Victoria, farming much of his own produce, including yabbies! In 1991 he relocated to Noosa, Queensland where his talent for drawing and painting finally emerged as he exchanged his chef’s knives for paint brushes and so began his extraordinary career as an artist.
Gordon’s training as a chef enables him to work fast and spontaneously; scraping back and layering lush acrylics onto his canvases. Together with his self-confessed passion for “wine, women and food” and his ability to record observations of humour and pathos in everyday life, the artist is rewarded with the instant appeal.
