ICE-WATCH® AND DAVID GUETTA

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Imagine being one of the WORLDS hottest DJ’s, playing to a crowded club on New Year’s Eve, the anticipation builds, the clock counts down to midnight, you anxiously scan the walls for a clock, you fumble in your pocket for your phone and then you hear the crowd starts to yell… six, five, four… you’ve missed it! What an anticlimax. Your big moment of the night, wasted and all because you didn’t have a watch.

Fortunately Music Producer and DJ David Guetta will never be caught out in this situation thanks to his reliance on Ice-Watch®!

The international music sensation with a host of MTV Music Awards, World Music Awards and Grammy Awards under his belt has chosen none other than Ice-Watch® to keep him on time and lookin’ fine.

Guetta has been so taken by the brand that he chose for his timepiece to appear in the official music video for his new single “Where Them Girls At”. The debut single from his fifth studio record scheduled for release on 29 August 2011.

Guetta can be seen wearing the Ice-White ‘Jeans’ Big model from the 2011 Collection. This timepiece is available from www.ice-watchstore.com.au .

GLASTONBURY 2011: THE YEAR OF POP, MUD, AND FLUORO WELLIES…

Beyonce-Knowles-wearing-gold-sequin-dress-performing-at-Glastonbury

‘The Christmas of Music’ descended on Worthy Farm in Somerset, UK last weekend as hundreds of musicians, artists, performers, celebrities, and average Britons unafraid of five days without a shower flocked to celebrate Glastonbury 2011.

The iconic music festival, which attracts worldwide attention and can make or break acts each year, is one of the most anticipated events in the musical calendar, and this year definitelt didn’t disappoint. Kicking off with the obligatory rainfall and mudpit antics, the 2011 event was an homage to the return of good old pop music; Brit singer Jessie J rocked the pyramid stage poised on a giant throne (not through laziness – she had a broken leg!), Plan B had everyone bouncing in the sun, Ke$ha ripped the walls off the dance tent, and Sunday night’s closing set belonged to none other than queen of the divas Beyonce, in what many critics have hailed as one of the best finale acts of the festivals’ history.

But music aside, Glasto is also about the fashion – how does one pull a suitable outfit together that a) withstands all weather conditions, b) you don’t mind getting trashed after five days of camping c) gives off that ‘this ensemble? Oh I just threw it together’ look that those British ladies do so well.

These girls got it spot on in our book:

The weekend truly did belong to Beyonce; yes, Coldplay and U2 were awesome, but this lady blew everyone away with her limitless energy, incredible dance troupe, tear-jerking vocals and her crowd interaction – my favourite quote from Lady B on the night was “I’ve always wanted to be a rockstar – and tonight we are all rockstars!”

Check out footage of Beyonce’s set here and create your own mini festival at home! (without the mud)

Curtains and Fashion?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Bet you didn’t think that curtains or carpets could have anything to do with fashion. Well you thought wrong. Move over Aladdin you’re not the only one who can pull a tassel off. Tantalizing tassels are hitting the streets as they were first seen on the runway by Louis Vuitton, Dior and Gucci and no surprise tassels were soon being adopted everywhere and anywhere. Fashionista’s Blake Lively and Gwyneth Paltrow hopped on the trend wagon and were spotted wearing their tassels in dramatic and inspiring ways.

If you thought a tassel was just a decorative carpet or curtain piece think again. The tassel has a long history. Originating thousands of years ago, the tassel was a symbol of status both military and religious. During the 16th and 17th century France, tassels were meticulously hand crafted representing wealth. Now in 2011 the tassel has become the ultimate mini fashion trend.

Since their debut in the Spring 2011 collection, tassels have become the new craze and are soon becoming the next big thing for summer.

Pic 7

Here is one way to make a statement, throw on a pair of bright pink tassels and make that little black number something to remember. But don’t worry girls, if loud isn’t your thing, tassels are anywhere, from bags to purses, shoes and earrings to even HAIR accessories. Yup no matter what, tassels can make an item or can be that subtle piece that adds to your outfit. So go grab an outfit with tassels or rummage through your grandma’s vintage clothing, I’m sure you will find a tassel amongst their clothes. But don’t cut off your mother’s curtains just so you can wear tassels, she might not appreciate that… Or maybe she will.

Bryan Boy

Must Haves

It is more often than not the flamboyant and fearless which tend to dictate the street beat. Elle’s own Anne Marie noted that “recently what the fashion crowed wears to shows has become as important as what’s on the catwalk” No longer do we look to be dressed head to toe in designer rags that fell straight from the catwalk and onto our backs, burning a hole in our pocket – a pocket which probably costed a few thousand in the first place. Now we look to the fashionably wise and street savvy visions of brazen bloggers like Bryan Boy who is more inclined to wear the Prada womens collection over the mens. That said he is also not afraid to mix it up with high street items. How does the fashion crowed stay so fashionable all the time? They invest in key items which they can mix and match with high street duds. Haven’t you heard, it’s all about wearing an attitude not just clothes. So if you can’t see beyond the catwalk, we have nailed down a few key MUST HAVE items which will serve you well this season.

Statement Earrings For a long time minimalism was all the rage. Luckily jewelry is having its triumphant return in the form of statement earrings. So take heed now is the time to invest!

A wise woman always said to me “jewelry lifts any outfit” and I follow this mantra when I want to enliven some severely dull clothes as well as the rule “if you can attach it you can wear it!”

The Parka Being warm in winter is such a good concept, so when downtown chic started trending (and everyone started moving from The Upper East Side to Brooklyn) we knew it wouldn’t be long till everyone bought out their well loved parkas. If you don’t have a well loved parka I suggest you get one, it will enrichen your life ten fold and is such a great option in the cooler months. Who doesn’t secretly want to wear their doona everywhere? doonaeverywhere#

The Coloured Trouser Nothing pleases me more than a pair of coloured pants. I can say for a fact that I am not the only Betty who believes this. Think Mad Men – colour your world!

The Oversized Clutch It evolved out of necessity. No woman can live in a ten by fifteen envelope clutch despite how hard we try. The selective pressures of keys, iphone, headphones, lipstick, powder, eyeliner, credit cards and – for those living in Brooklyn, pepper spray – dictate that a woman must have a reasonable sized bag. But who wants to carry a hobo around during the night? Not I! No matter what one says a clutch is always the chicest option although not always the handiest. Oversized clutches have resolved the “I cant fit this” dilemma. Now you can have it all, in a handful.

Go à la Jackie O The eyes are the first point of acknowledgement between people, so it is imperative when out and about that you treat them with the respect they deserve. Being a sunglasses hoarder myself I often catch myself justifying a new pair of shades. So I’m going to tell you what I tell myself every time.

  1. You only have one pair of eyes
  2. Without eyes you cant navigate through the world
  3. Australia has by far the most damaging UV rays
  4. Sunglasses are therefore an investment in your health.

The style this season definately hails from the 70s in the way of shape and size. So why not take a leaf out of Prada’s book with their Baroque shades. I know I did. Whether you are wearing a pair of clear keyhole Paul Smiths, some uber chic Cutler and Gross shades or some avant garde Ksubi lenses – now is the time to live on the edge.

J’aime Mon Marre – I Love My Scarf

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Have you always wanted to sport a silk scarf but never had the courage or know-how of how to incorporate it into your ensemble without feeling like your channeling your 80 year old grandmother?! I know I defiantly have.

So when I laid eyes on Hermes latest campaign ”J’aime Mon Carre” I think I’m definitely ready to rock a silk scarf. Unlike its traditional brand style, the luxurious French fashion house has launched an uber modern campaign featuring colourful pictures of fashionista’s sporting the scarves on the street and giving us some serious style inspiration. The tres chic Hermes scarf is presented in many different interpretations: a short skirt, a pirate head wrap, a cuff, a cow-boy bandana, a bag, a top and a dress. The cuff definitely has to be my fav.

Below are some of the best looks…

Don’t be afraid to have fun with a silk scarf and make it the statement piece of your ensemble. Try going for a hippie-chic vibe, wearing it open in the front, creating a head wrap or a retro knot. Think Nicole Richie.

Cervo

There is possibly nothing I love more than the smell of leather, other than a sweet new leather bag on my arm. So when Miu Miu – or baby Prada as I like to call it – returned with this season’s key leather looks I just had to share. This year Miu Miu brings back their signature style in candy colours. There three key looks being the Vitello Lux, heavy with gold hardware and in a range of eye popping colours from sea blue to flamingo pink is bound to be meeting the arms of a-listers world wide. But if your more classic at heart, you have not been forgotten. One can opt for the Cloquet and Micro Matelassè – true embodiments of the Miu Miu image! Last but not least there is the Cervo which is their most modern bag to date, clean cut in sumptuous matte leather. If these do not do it for you than you can definitely count on the Vernice Cristal or the Pailettes bag which are definitely for the brave. So it definitely seems that Miu Miu have delivered when it comes to their new collection – the only question now is can 14 year old, True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld bring it?

Tracey_Emin_Love_Is_What_You_Want-777x520

Tracey Emin has long been described as ‘disarmingly frank and often deeply confessional’ making her art all the more confrontational if not controversial. Often demurely spotted on the a-list party circuit Emin revives her infamous reputation with her latest retrospective  – Love is What You Want – which can currently be seen at the Hayward Gallery, London.

The exhibition invites viewers to take part in her life from the highest highs to the lowest lows of love, hate and self ruin investigating the frailty of womanhood and the search for stability. Admittedly she spoke to the Independent deeming that “I should feel quite good with myself since the realisation that I am truly what I am, and what I say I am. There’s no veneer or cover. When I’m wounded, I walk wounded. My life makes sense on a thin, painful level. There’s no comfy landing pad.”

Emin who rose to fame as a part of the Young British Artists movement – funded by Charles Saatchi -  during the late 80s has made her triumphant return through a series of works which have been heralded by some as vulgur, outspoken and effortlessly crass which has been nothing but aided by her recent interview with BBC Radio 4’s John Humphrys – I’ll leave that for you to google! But despite her ‘mouthy style’ and her unabashed openness; Emins work resurrects what is truly missing in modern society. And that is the candid truth. And isn’t that what the Brits do best? I sure think so.

CONVERSE MAKES A ‘SPLAT’ AT PARIS MALE SHOWS

Monday, June 27th, 2011

STREETFSN

There’s always SOMETHING fashionable happening in Paris…and this week is was the Spring/Summer 2012 menswear shows which ran for five days amid boiling temperatures in the French capital. With shows from Acne, Paul Smith, Lanvin, Thom Browne and many more, choosing our favourite look was tricky – but our inspiration actually came from the street rather than the runway!

Check out this inspired ensemble snapped outside the shows; this gent goes to great lengths to look unique. Splattering his iconic Converse and light linen trousers with black paint, his outfit says to us that although he loves summer shades, he also has a twisted dark side fighting to surface…or have we been reading too much Twilight?!

Whatever his message, he’s definitely got us talking – and I know what I’m making my boyfriend for his next birthday – customised Connies!
