THE BETTIES TAKE ON THE QUIKSILVER PRO!
Monday, February 28th, 2011
This weekend we were beyond lucky and managed to crack an invite to the Quiksilver Pro, held at the magnificent Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast. We were there as guests, and were shown how surfing events are done – Quiksilver style!
With the likes of superstars Stephanie Gilmore and Kelly Slater set to make a splash at the Pro, our little hearts fluttered with the hopes of meeting the hunk himself. The giant posters around every corner taunted us even further!

The Betties were sure to make their mark with one of the many ‘BEST’ stickers that filled the venue. We even made a little purchase at the Merchandise Tent and grabbed a couple of ‘BEST’ hats that are yet to be filled out. We’re totally open to suggestions…

We had been told that the annual comp is renowned for its bad weather, however we were blessed with nothing but sunshine for the epic weekend.

Watching the heats from the Corona VIP tent during the day and sipping on cocktails at KOMUNE beach club at night, we really were treated like queens with a team who certainly knew how to party! (What happens in the Gold Coast, stays in the Gold Coast…) We were nearly (willingly) kidnapped by the Quiky Team to stay for the rest of the comp but we were starting to struggle to keep up with the Quiksilver Pro, pro’s!

We may not have met Kelly (sad face) but it was certainly a weekend that we shall never forget!
While we could totally get used to this lifestyle, we will now be reading the updates from our desks! Stay informed & view live streams at: http://www.quiksilverpro.com.au/

With the advent of the “femiman” current in fashion, designers turn their attention to models who represent an ideal of beauty outside the classic definition of gender. Lea T, the Givenchy pre-op transgender model, has just made her catwalk debut. Lea T was born Leo and, for a while, worked as a male model, however as a result of his impending success, ended up receiving more offers for female modeling then male.

The gender-bending trend has even spread its wings to Australia with the introduction of Androgynous Australian/Serbian male model Andrej Pejic, who lead the Marc by Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier shows. When Carine Roitfeld, the Paris Vogue editor decided to put Andrej on the cover of her magazine, it signaled a major shift in the business of male modeling. The 19-year-old Pejic has become the industry’s leading male-model provocateur, with gender-bending campaigns for Jean-Paul Gaultier and Steven Meisel emphasizing his asexual good looks
If this comes as a shock, let’s not forget the 80s and some of the visionaries to come out of this era, producing some of our greatest pop culture and glam rock icons to date, David Bowie, Boy George, Adam Ant, Annie Lennox – and yes you can even add KISS to that list.

DEMI MOORE IS A PERFECT DEMI CURVE!
Friday, February 25th, 2011When Levi’s® created the ‘Demi Curve’ fit for its Curve ID denim system last year, little did the brand know that the fabulous Demi Moore would turn out to be it’s biggest fan!

Demi made a trip to the Levi’s® showroom in LA and was measured by a Levi’s Curve ID specialist, to find her perfect fitting denims. Last year, Levi’s® polled over 60,000 women around the world to find the three universal body shapes – Slight Curve (boyish, straight figure) Demi Curve (perfectly proportioned chest and hips) and Bold Curve (ladies with a divine bottom) – creating Levi’s® Curve ID, the revolutionary fit system which is now used by the brand in all countries for women’s jeans.
In a cute twist of fate, the most iconic Demi of our time found that she was indeed a Demi Curve, and after being gifted a range of jeans she has been spotted showing off her A-List style and Demi Curve jeans in Los Angeles, Sao Paulo Brazil and shopping with Salma Hayek in Paris.
All the Demi Curve girls out there – you’re in good company!
Levi’s® Curve ID are available from Levi’s® stores and stockists nationally. Visit www.levis.com.au for more details.

The Perfect Dress For All
Friday, February 25th, 2011What’s that I hear you exclaim? There is one dress that suits everyone? Yes you have heard me correctly! According to U.S Glamour magazine, the jersey dress flatters every shape and size.

It is a simple but chic style. Suitable for the office, a sexy date or night out with the girls, it’s an easy pick to instantly feel gorgeous.
The features of the jersey are a draped front, mid-length, cinched waist and clever ruching, meaning those of us blessed with curves can accentuate their best assets and women with athletic bodies can give the illusion of curves. A winner all round!
Who else is a fan of the jersey? The beautiful bride-to-be Kate Middleton, who wore a jersey dress the day her and Prince William announced their engagement.

In Britain, leading newspaper The Daily Mail tried out a blue jersey dress by Isabella Oliver on six different body types. Here are some of their comments:
Pear: “It also miraculously manages to balance out my small bust and shoulders so I seem much more in proportion.”
Hourglass: “This dress skims my figure and the tie means it properly cinches in around my waist.”
Petite: “I’m really small and often feel swamped by dresses or can appear too girly. But this dress feels sophisticated and perfect for day or night.”
Busty: “It’s hard to find a dress that flatters my bust, but the V-neck shows off just enough skin and the neckline minimizes my chest.”
Plus size: “The draping on this dress stops it from being too clingy over my hips and stomach, while the nipped-in waist gives me a good shape – and the long sleeves hide my upper arms.”
Athletic: “Until I put on this dress I didn’t think I’d ever have curves. Now the clever cut has given me the waist and hips I’ve always wanted.”

Now why don’t you try a pretty jersey dress yourself? I guarantee you will be amazed with your figure!

PARK ST LAUNCHES PARK SIDE XX
Thursday, February 24th, 2011After weeks of anticipation and beyond normal excitement in the SB offices – last night finally marked the launch of fly-on-the-wall doco Park St and the introduction of Sydney’s newest reality TV stars – Cleo’s Gemma Crisp, Cosmo’s Jessica Parry, Shop Til You Drop’s Justine Cullen, Madison’s Lizzie Renkert and Dolly’s Tiffany Dunk (Not to forget there was also a cameo by our very own RJ – who at the risk of sounding like a suck up was nonetheless brilliant).
In celebration –fashions finest descended upon Bambini Trust to clink glasses – just a hop skip and a jump from the building where what went down on our screens when the clock hit 9.30pm – all happened.
Spotted amongst the crowd – a black and white clad Laura Dundovic rocking the latest celeb trend nail foils, Sophie Falkiner in a STUNNING Rachel Gilbert top, Lee Furlong, Annaliese Braakensiek, Nikki Philips – and the list goes on.
With ep one done and dusted – us Betties on the other side of the Mag-biz are looking forward to installment two – the high heels are deadly and so are the ladies wearing them it seems!
