Tricks in the City!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Attention all thrill seekers! To celebrate the start of the Australian ski season, Cargo Bar is hosting the BIG AIR SNOW SLAM PARTY, and the Betties could not be more thrilled!

The event will be held on Thursday August 5 and will showcase the latest tricks of professional snowboarders (drool) such as Russel Holt, Nick Gregory, Clint Allen & Ryan Tiene! These snow pros will be launching themselves through the air and landing on a huge air filled cushion that is attached to a 10 metre pullied run up and ramp. Deemed, the “Monster Jump”, we get an adrenaline rush just thinking about it!

If that wasn’t enough excitement for one evening, Cargo Bar has arranged an amazing DJ line-up. Headliner Total Eclipse from The Executioners will be joined by the likes of Backhanders, Adam Bazetto and Rogers Room, keeping the snowboarders pumped and the dance floor fun until late.

This snow pro show kicks off at 6:30pm at Cargo Bar. We will see you there!

LEVI’S LOVES AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Last  month we escaped the rainy-day blues by visiting the Levi’s(R) Store in Chatswood. It was the perfect opportunity to check out their unique brand of blue and a special filming of Australia’s Next Top Model. It was crazy to see the camera crew, make-up artists and stylists milling about the racks of one of our favourite denim stores.

The gorgeous girls looked casual chic in their Levis get-ups.  From acid wash skinnies to baggy boyfriends jeans, the catwalkers certainly had fun playing around in the denim. Each girl also sported t-shirts from Levis partnership with Jeans for Genes, which supports the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

Erin Mcnaught was on hand to give the girls some advice from her own fashionable experience.  As a television presenter and former Miss Australia, she certainly knows how to look good on camera, and it definitely seemed to rub off on all of the striking contestants.

Check out our photos to see an insider look at the day. The episode aired on FOX8 this week and we had to bid a sad farewell to Megan :(

I can’t believe how quickly my time here has flown by (tear), and now it is time to go home… But not before I travel around this half of the world first!

AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODELS GET BLIXZED!

Unknown-2

Nails are a constant topic of discussion here at Sweaty Betty PR – when’s our next mani and pedi, has our new fluoro nail polish lasted the weekend, the acrylic vs natural nail debate – we all love a striking nail colour and feel naked without a coat of polish!

But the latest trend to catch our eyes is Blixz Nail Foils; we first fell in love with nail foils after spotting them on the likes of Rhianna, the Pussycat Dolls and Ke$hak, and had to get our mitts on them. Sleeker, shinier and longer-lasting than nail polish, foils really make a statement and we’re right behind the trend before it explodes (we predict these being bigger than Chanel’s tattoos!)

And who better to pioneer the Blixz revolution than our newest ‘IT’ Girls, the Australia’s Next Top Model finalists? Each of the 16 girls were completely Blixzed up last night at a VIP screening of the show’s first episode in Sydney’s Cargo Bar. Decked out in Rachel Gilbert frocks and Supre ensembles, the ANTM Models strutted their stuff on the catwalk with the bright lights bouncing off their fabulous metallic nails!

The Blizx team were on hand at the launch party to makeover the nails of all guests, and the Betties even got in on the action with Maz, Charlie, Sara and Bernie all rocking the nail foil trend!

Check out http://www.blixz.com.au and choose from hundreds of colours – take it from us – this is the HOT nail trend of summer 2010!

Trend Spotted!

kneesocks

The start of the Spring-Summer 2010 season means it’s time to refresh your wardrobe. Knee high socks are rocking the Spring-Summer 2010 runways, and these knits are not just for school girls! Knee high and just over the knee socks are equally popular, so it’s completely up to you which style you feel flatter you legs most!

Seen this season paired with strappy sandals and peep toes, these socks range from the popular black and grey to bold reds and metallics. No matter what shoes you choose, there is one general rule- show that sock! The more colourful knitwear you display the better! Although, one exception is the military boot; These rock even more with socks that end just above or below the knee!

Can’t choose to go over or under? Another hot trend with these socks is to pair them together and rock a knee-high over a longer pair that stop above the knee. This is the perfect combo for spring days with a bit of crisp chill in the air.

We all kneed a pair of knee highs!!

A Day in the Life of Amy! x

Amy Sutherland, Publicist and new business guru at Sweaty Betty PR!

5.00am – Bleurgh, the alarm goes off, I drag myself out of bed and pull on my running gear (which I’ve cleverly left at the bottom of the bed in preparation). I’m three months away from my first marathon so early morning runs are a MUST!

6.30am – Back from my run in the freezing cold temperatures – shower, breakfast, catch a few minutes of Sunrise and work my way through emails on the Blackberry while on the bus to the office. Hate public transport but enjoy having time to read the fashion mags on the way to work!

8.00am – Open up the showroom and use the quiet early morning time wisely – things get a whole lot busier come 9am. Whizz through my emails, merchandise my brands’ areas, warm up with the first green tea of the day.

8.30am – The Betties are in and primed for the day ahead. Phone starts ringing, first stylist appointments arrive, Roxy arrives and we commence our break-neck speed typing!

9.30am – Start booking out product from the morning’s editor visits, while answering calls to clients, updating Twitter, and pitching my brands by email. The showroom is buzzing with activity; the Cosmo girls are chatting with Roxy and comparing shopping tips, Kim Payne from Men’s Style is filling us in on her recent trip to Palm Springs, and we’re all singing along to Phoenix on the radio. Happy days!

11am – Levi’s update me on the latest US celebs wearing the brand – I start pitching the stand out pieces to my contacts. A client drops in with some new product (we have an open door policy here at Sweaty Betty) and we have a quick catch up. Then it’s all hands on deck getting our courier dispatches ready for the 12noon pickups.

12.15 – Couriers done, we have a little breather and I get some writing done. Draft up a press release and shoot it through to the client for approval. While I’m waiting for a response, I catch up on emails and recap the morning’s events on Twitter – all the Betties are addicted to Tweeting!

1.30 – Grab some lunch with our graphic designer Ika – we made a pact 6 months ago to cook healthy lunches in the office and so far we’ve stuck to it! Today’s gourmet feast is fig, proscuitto and mozzarella salad – YUM! Munch it down at my desk (naughty I know) but need to keep on top of my emails before the afternoon rush.

2pm – New business meeting with a quirky new jewellery brand, based in Bondi. My pitching partner Maz join us and we get very excited over the new range – its FAB and we close the deal in true Sweaty Betty style. Love this job!

3pm – Second lot of couriers booked and dispatched, and it’s back to emails and catching up with clients. Our fabulous showroom co-ordinators help me unpack new shoes from Williams and Mathers and photograph them for a media send out.

4pm – The Sweaty Betty team sit down for our Monday meeting. Everyone’s got a stack of newspaper clippings from the weekend’s press – it’s been a successful week! Chief Betty Rox runs through the coverage and points out opportunities for our brands. We all report back on the previous week’s activities and chat through current projects. Then we indulge in our daily dose of Chia Seeds with green tea – they taste pretty disgusting and we have to force them down, but apparently give glowing skin and trim figures. No pain no gain..

5pm – Some companies might be winding down at this point – but not us! I have a quick conference call with a client and then wade through the afternoon’s emails. Bash out a quick news snippet and organise some Levi’s for Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl fame – all in a day’s work!

6.30pm – Final Tweets of the day, plan out tomorrow’s jobs list, wish the girls a lovely evening and lock up for the night. Head home and de-brief with the boyfriend before a DVD and bed.

A DREAM COLLABORATION!

Renowned  for her work as an actress, model and television personality, Annalise Braakensiek is one of Australia’s most popular and multi-faceted celebrities. Sydney-based Annalise is also a keen designer, vegetarian chef and entrepreneur whose passion for healthy living and the environment shines through in all of her endeavors. A creative and talented businesswoman, Annalise designs with a commitment to creating beautiful products that reflect her dedication to a green lifestyle.

Annalise has teamed up with lingerie leader, Bras N Things to launch a collection of eco-friendly lingerie for larger-busted women, called the “Annalise” range, specializing in C-F cups. “It’s green. No toxic ink, organic cotton, organic bamboo, sustainable produce, the swing tags are recycled cardboard and even attached with organic twine. As eco-friendly as I can possibly make it. Looking after girls with bigger boobs and looking after the environment at the same time,” says the newest Bras N Things designer.

115_7615A

“It’s something that’s been needed for so long. I started working on this three years ago. There were no fashionable large sizes. I think it’s great now women of all sizes can get lingerie that suits their personality,” she says. Bras N Things’ “Annalise” collection does just that with romantic colours, embellishments and flirty, feminine lace. These bras are nothing like the dull and dowdy bras previously available to women sporting larger busts, and fuller-chested women around the world are sure to  fall in love with this beautifully flattering range.

The “Annalise” collection is available exclusively in Bras N Things stores across Australia and New Zealand, and online at www.bnt.com.au
