THE TREE OF OUR DREAMS…..

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Who ever said that Couture was only to be worn, clearly made the statement before witnessing the sheer brilliance of Miseur Galliano and his collaboration with iconic Mayfair hotel, Claridge’s.

This festive season, our hearts are fluttering when we look at the amazing Christmas tree designed by John Galliano for DIOR. The lavish creation is a tropical tree adorned with a snow leopard, dragonflies and parrots and has delighted every solitary guest that has walked through the door.

We are head over heels in love with the inherent glamour of the tree and would bring every part of the magic into our own living rooms if we could…well we can only dream!

DIOR creative director, Mr Galliano commented: “I am thrilled that DIOR is collaborating with Claridge’s this Christmas. I love to visit Claridge’s when I am in London, particularly at this time of the year – and I hope to bring a twist to the traditional tree. I want to combine the festive with the innovative, the spirit of Dior with the beauty of Claridge’s, and create something spectacular that will inspire the perfect start to the season!”

Looking for something different to do this festive season…
How about a trip to the Power House Museum!!

PW659

The Powerhouse Museum is bringing back the 80s with a spectacular new
exhibition that will reveal the good and the bad about the decade
remembered for its over the top excess. The 80s are back will
explore Australian life and popular culture in the 1980s, revisiting
the era’s toys and fads, video games and technology, architecture
and design trends, parties, nightclubs and live music.

The Betties  are most excited for the exhibitions album cover wall with
lots of musical memories from the decade.

We know where we will be heading for a 80’s revival this summer!!

ROLEX…TIME is of the ESSENCE…

Picture 5

Being the largest single luxury watch brand in the world, it doesn’t take much to see the overwhelming obsession for a Rolex.

After receiving the 2010 Rolex Catalogue in the SB office today – I flicked through and soon realised the extent of this dream and how easily a timepiece can convert one’s want of a new watch.

Producing about 2,000 watches per day, with estimated revenues of around US$3 billion a year this luxury brand creates a whirl of desire amongst males and females worldwide.

Rachel Zoe’s wrists constantly sports Rolex’s (vintage to brand new styles), her assistant Taylor gave her Rolex brilliant airtime on The Rachel Zoe Project and with sponsorships of Rodger Federer and Diana Krall…just to name a few.

A flick is all I can afford this year….maybe with any luck next year my luck will change…

GET LOST IN THE SUPERMARKET WITH BEN FROST

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Anyone who’s ever visited the little town of Maleny, 90km north of Brisbane, will remember it well – the settlement nestled in the mountains is a melting pot of ageing hippies, organic yuppies and swarming tourists, set against a backdrop of psychedelic graffiti and ‘happy herb’ stores. It’s no surprise then, that one of Australia’s most bizarre towns was the childhood home of the country’s street-cum-pop artist Ben Frost.

The now Sydney-based artist has courted controversy throughout his career – from his work ‘White Children Playing: Late 1900’s’ depicting children shooting-up drugs, to his famous art prank ‘Ben Frost is Dead’ in 2000, faking his own death, he’s been described as a ‘culturally confrontational and wildly irrepressible’ artist. His visually dynamic paintings (some will make your head spin!) are collage mash-ups of cartoon characters, popular logos and branding (Disney, Levis, Coca Cola and Pokemon have all featured in his pieces), savagely critiquing a society which is obsessed with modern brands.

So it’s with open arms that we welcome Ben back to Sydney – after a stint of exhibiting overseas, the artist has been holed up in his Surry Hills studio ‘Worlds End’, preparing for his ‘Lost in the Supermarket’ exhibition at Boutwell Draper Gallery in Redfern. If you catch one city art exhibition this month, make it this one – guaranteed to humour, shock, and stimulate – visit http://www.boutwelldrapergallery.com.au/exhibitions.php for more details.

Betty’s on Set

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

bnt 020

Today the Betty’s were lucky enough to leave their desks and crash a Bras and Things photo shoot in East Sydney. The models looked gorgeous in their sweet matching pyjama sets, as they played up and feigned sleepy faces for the camera. The Betty’s watched on as a team of stylists, make-up artists and hair dressers cooly went about their work. And guess what?!  There was even a little white puppy dog in the entourage.

The crew were nice enough to give us a cheeky sneak peak into the new collection, full of indulgent girly sleepwear and cutesy camis.

We know what we’ll be asking Santa for this Christmas.

Bvlgari is celebrating 125 years of putting the B in bling; and they have given us the gift of another iconic range of timeless drool-worthy jewels. The range channels Bvlgari’s signature style of classical meets contemporary, with a strong influence from traditional Roman and Greek culture.  Serpent motifs, gold coins and the ample use of very large, very precious stones feature throughout gaining new appeal and modernity.

Always pure in luxury and exquisite in detail, a stand out favorite for fashionistas is the Serpentini diamond bracelet. Conceived in double or triple coils, the wrap around bracelet and watches are stunning and officially added to our ever expanding wish-list.
