Cleo’s Most Eligible Bachelor? My Pick?

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Sami Lukis & Me!

Last Wednesday saw the Annual CLEO bachelor panel lunch which I was lucky enough to attend - held at Velero in Woolloomooloo, it was quite the day with some of Sydney’s most glamorous women all congregating to select who they felt should become the Top 50 from a selection which conservatively would have been 200 + candidates. As you can imagine, when the invitation came through, no sooner had I recieved it, had I RSVP’d!

So, the question throughout the office on returning (the next day with a rather sore head – yes it was one BIG day!) was who my pick was to be – and no, it wasn’t Ben Cousin’s – okay, maybe it was for an extended brief moment!!!!!! Decided that I’m quite partial to Gareth Moody from Chronicles of the Never….

POSH IS A CUT ABOVE THE REST…

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

“I am obsessed with this dress!” were Roxy’s first words on entering the office this morning, thrusting a torn page from NW magazine on to my desk.

The dress in question? A sleek and sexy number, elegantly fitted with a plunging neckline in a vivid shade of red. The wearer? Spice-girl turned style aficionado Victoria Beckham. My mission? To track down the designer and inform Roxy immediately!

As I browsed the internet for clues (the fashion blogosphere was similarly obsessed with the dress) I was in for a surprise – this was no Valentino, Marc Jacobs or Roland Mouret garment – this dress is straight from Mrs Beckham’s eponymous collection, designed by the lady herself.

Inspired by the glamour of the 1950s and intended to embrace the female form, Victoria says her dress collection has been a ‘lifetime in the making’. She wowed the fashion pack last September at New York Fashion Week with the launch – ten styles that create a sleek and sophisticated silhouette and are accessorised with a trademark rose gold back zip “so you don’t have to dive into it and mess up your hair and makeup”.

Fresh from critical acclaim and with yet another fashion forward hairstyle (the pixie crop has grown into a softer style) Posh is set to release her second collection, featuring the much coveted red dress. The collection is proving to be as elusive as Victoria herself – the small list of stockists including Harrods and Bergdorf Goodman does not stretch to Australian shores, so our only hope is to track online stockist Net-a-Porter.

We’re all in agreement that Roxy will look fabulous in the dress and we’ll have a photographic update once we’ve tracked it down!

WANT TO DRIVE A SUPERCAR? JOIN THE CLUB

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

High-rollers and car fanatics are fighting to join Sydney’s newest and coolest club and worship at the wheel of the Supercar.

With programs in Melbourne, Gold Coast, and now Sydney, the Supercar Club is on hand for those automobile fanatics who don’t want the hassle of owning and maintaining a ‘supercar’ and gives members a variety of slick vehicles to drive throughout the year.

As with every true ‘club’, members undertake an initiation test, in this case a driving course which helps them cope with the size and driveability of a Supercar. And because responsibility comes with age, the minimum age for joining the Supercar Club is 30.

Five levels of membership are available, from the $18,000 per year Bathurst, up to the pricey $72,000 Le Mans level which includes 80 days of driving and access to Supercar Track Day events. Club membership may be more than most Sydney dwellers’ salaries, but compared to the running costs of owning a Supercar, it’s cheap at the price.

Visit www.supercarclub.com.au to join the coolest club in town.

THE T-SHIRTS OF A GENERATION

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

In today’s digital age we can access news on the street, in print, on the radio and TV, to our mobiles, blackberries, laptops – and now via a graphic T-shirt.

Swedish company T-post is mashing the worlds of fashion, politics and current affairs together with T-post, a T-shirt subscription service based on the weird and wacky news stories of the month.

The idea is nothing short of genius – customers pay a regular fee and in return, they receive a T-shirt in the mail with a graphic or image that represents a hot topic in the news. Tees are designed by the T-post team and have covered news snippets such as brain-enhancing drugs, peeping toms, evil clowns, and the increasing presence of robots in society. In the words of the T-post team: “You may not always hear about your T-post’s story from traditional news media but in our opinion, you should have”.

Designs are printed on top quality American Apparel T-shirts and the $51 six-weekly subscription is a very small price to pay for these unique pieces. The perfect choice for those who crave knowledge and information, like to discuss big ideas and theories, or just generally wear a lot of T-shirts! Visit www.t-post.se to sport the world’s first wearable magazine, but hurry fast – T-post is not going to stay secret for long…
